XP On a Intel Mac
There has been a contest running over at http://onmac.net/, to get Windows XP running on one of the new Intel based Mac’s.
Well news is that narf2006 has got it working. Here is a link to a copy of the movie that he released, (nice and fast connection for Aussies), and there is some pictures that you can look at here if you are interested in them too.
I am not a Mac user, but this captured my interest, as I like the mac hardware, but need windows for most of my work, and dont want to install a virtual windows session on a mac.
Will be interesting to see if it all works.
The forum posts can be read here and here

Commonwealth Games 2006
So I went to the Commonwealth Games opening last night. I didnt have tickets to the MCG, so i sat on the side of the Yarra River with my wife and some friends.
We had heard that we should be there by 7:30pm, so assuming that it would start at 7:30, we found a spot to sit a little while before that. When 7:30 came round, I got up out of my seat to go stand by the river thinking that the Baton was going to come by. Little did we know that 7:30pm was the start of the “Pre-show” entertainment, which I must say, was extremely boring. After moving back to my seat after finding out that the actual event didnt start till 8:30pm, i decided that I would take my camera and go for a walk. I ended up walking around for most of the opening ceremony, which I enjoyed, and I had heaps of fun too, getting to see different aspects of the Yarra event from different angles. I stopped along the way to take pictures of different things, some worked out good, most were average, and a few got deleted. I ended up in a great position to watch the baton leave the yarra. There were about 5 other photographers there, and I assumed they were pro’s due to the huge lenses they had.
Here are some of the pictures I took:

You can check out all the images I took over at my photoalbum under the Commonwealth Games 2006 folder.

mIRC Stats
It has been a long time since I have used mIRC Stats, but I dusted it off yesterday and set it up to do some stats for irc.eyerc.net. I use to use XChat on windows and linux as my IRC Client of choice, but have recently changed to HydraIRC as my IRC client of choice for windows. As such, I had to write a new parser for HydraIRC log formats (I had previously written one for XChat when I first started using mIRC Stats).
If you use mIRC Stats, I have included the parser’s that I use in this post, so that you can download them and use them too.
HydraIRC_parser.txt
xchat_parser.txt
If you dont use mIRC Stats or dont know what it is, go check it out. Also you should check out HydraIRC if you are looking for a good IRC client for windows.
Let me know if you find any errors with the parsers.

Mini ITX
I have been wanting to make a PC for my car for a long time, but never came across a case that I thought would be realy cool in the car.
At the recent CeBIT show, there was both new mini itx cases and via mini itx main boards released. Over at www.mini-itx.com they have a few new cases and combo’s like this Vehicle PC. Looks like I wont need to make one up myself after all.
All I need after that is a nice LCD display, a new sound system, GPS nav software and a GPS unit…..
Well looks like there will probably be better things around by the time i have all the parts to make it worth while

RAID
Came across an interesting use for a RAID array today.
Some guy has build a RAID array out of 5 USB Floppy Disk Drives.
Here is the full article.
I dont see this technology taking off any time soon. Imagine what the would would have been like about 15 years ago if someone had developed FDD RAID. We would have been able to boot our PC’s off the 5.25″ FDD’s that little bit quicker

Digital picture frames
Have you ever wanted to grab an old laptop and make one of thoes digital picture frames that you see around the net? Well now it looks like you dont need to. Samsung are releasing a 7inch Digital Picture Frame.

You can read more about it at engadget. You might also want to check it out on the Samsung site.
I have always wanted to make a digital picture frame, and probably will end up making one myself, with an old laptop. Chances are that this will be too expensive to justify buying just to hang on the wall

U2 postpone Australian tour
It is a sad day for Australian U2 fans. Which includes me.
It was announced today that U2 are postponing their Australian tour because “An immediate family member of one of the band is ill”.
You can read the full article on The Age’s website here.
This is very bad news for me and my wife, as we both have tickets to go, and I was looking forward to it.
You can check out a PDF file with the notice from U2, here.
I know I am not the only one that is disapointed about this. Cant wait to find out what the new dates are.

First Post
Well, Here is my first Blog post, the first of many.
Currently I do not have any huge plans for what I will write about on this blog. For now it will be mainly comments I have on things that I read. I will also add posts about status of my hobbies (some of which are listed on the about page), and about activities I do and enjoy.
I will probably start my proper posting later today, and hope to add a post or 2 most days, depending on where I am and what I am doing.
Enjoy
